Meet the Team
Carolina Proaño y Sebastian Cruz have been conducting research on the Galapagos islands for more than 10 years. Focusing mainly on protecting seabirds. In their projects, Caro and Sebas were able to observe the interaction of birds with plastics and the lethal damage it produces. This led them to found the "Precious Plastics Galapagos" project, which seeks to change the idea of plastic as a precious material that can be transformed into beautiful shapes. They built machines on the islands to process the plastic and recycle it into useful objects, preventing it from harming the insular ecosystems again. Each plastic object tells a story from when it was pulled from the bottom of the earth until it reached our hands. The funds from this venture will go back to the work that Caro and Sebas are doing for the conservation of critically endangered species such as the Galapagos Petrel (Pterodroma phaseopygia)
